Five months old today and over 2,500 customers to date! Thank you for helping us make this wild experiment a success. We especially appreciate that you tell your friends about Bottlerocket, leading them down 19th Street to discover how buying wine can be as fun as drinking it. A number of excellent new wines have just arrived in the store. We're still a little shy of our goal of 365 different bottles. Taking the time to lovingly hand pick our selection. Keeping it balanced. Tasting many until we find the winners. Come in and try something new!
Last week, Julia Child fans flocked around Alex Prud'homme, reading from Julia's memoir at Bottlerocket's Eclectic Salon on September 20. Tomorrow, don't miss Dina Cheney, author of Tasting Club, giving us her insider secrets for hosting a home tasting party. Tuesday, October 4 from 6 to 8 pm. Classes have begun and many more classes are in the works, including one-off evening and weekend sessions, along with future offerings of Explore Wine, our 4-part introductory class. Let us know what interests you; we'll bend over backwards to create a class that answers your need.
Kids welcome! Did you know that Bottlerocket has a children's nook in the store? Chalk aficionados and Lego lovers, show us your stuff.

| Latest & Greatest Domaine de Cassan. Beaumes de Venise Côtes du Rhône Villages 2004.
Soul-satisfying. The region of Beaumes de Venise in the Southern Rhône, was recently granted its own appellation, where family-owned Domaine de Cassan produces ruby, red wine that express dark fruit and richness. The vines on this 28 hectare (about 69 acres) property benefit from many sun-soaked days, producing smoky, spicy flavors. The 2004 vintage was small and it is not going to be around long. Enjoy it now, or keep one for next year's dinner party. Weingut Familie Rauen. Riesling Spätlese 2003. Germany > Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. $16.
Ridge. California Zinfandel Pagani Ranch 2004. USA > Sonoma County. $36.
Since 1991, Ridge has made Zinfandel from the old Pagani vineyard on the east-facing side of Sonoma Valley. Almost all the vines here were planted more than a hundred years ago. Pagani Ranch is a fine example of what we look for in a vineyard: low-yielding old vines, carefully tended by a quality-conscious family who, in this case, have worked the land for four generations. The vineyard's long survival is proof of its merit. An average site would have been abandoned during the thirteen years of Prohibition, or during the Depression. If you love Zinfandel, Pagani Ranch is a "must-have" wine. It won't be in the store for long. Remember, Bottlerocket delivers. We will send you a carry-box with two of each of the Latest & Greatest wines, for $132 plus tax (6 bottles total). Is there a wine you wish we carried? Let us know and we'll see what we can do.
