- Arnaldo Caprai, textile maven, purchased land, including some old vineyards, in his native Umbria in the early 1970's, in the town of Montefalco. The vineyards were planted to Sagrantino, a forgotten grape used mostly for sacramental wines. Caprai's vision was to tame the grape and produce, unique, world-class wines. Joined by his son, Marco, in 1987, they launched the Sagrantino Project.
