  • His professors at U.C. Davis had determined that the Columbia Valley had too cool a climate to sustain wine grapes, so Rob Griffin did what any grad in 1977 would do; he moved up to Washington and and became Preston Winery's 1st winemaker. He and his wife, Deborah Barnard began their family winery in 1983 while Rob was just beginning a 7 year stint at WA pioneer Hogue.
